Suddenly lots of probs - cutting out when dropping down to second - ridiculous revving in idle and a bit of mis - firing along the journey
Also she has central locking with a fob de-activating the alarm then the key should open / close all doors BUT she is currently in " snecks down " mode when we exit her.
She only has 45k on clock and has been ultra reliable so far ( I have had her for 3 years ). Do loads of short journeys - home - school - work and back and only the occasional blast along the motorway.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

welcome to the forum!
this mark of polo quite often has the above problems that you have mentioned.
to start, its probably worth checking/replacing all the HT leads and spark plugs, my girlfriends mk4 had a misfire and power loss and it turned out one of the HT leads was knackered.
if the car is stalling occasionally aswell, it may be a clogged up throttle body. give this a good clean with some carb cleaner and you hopefully notice a difference. again this problem occured on my g/fs mk4 and we had to clean the TB. it did the trick though!
hope this is of some help!

Welcoem to the forum mate, the mk4s prone to these issues as is mine. Currently dropping revs when slowing down pressing the clutch. Only stalled on me once (this winter so far
) If all the above fail then it could also be your distributors cracked/leaking, idle control valve or the cam sensor. Hopefully it won't be though! Mine still isn't sorted as i've already done the above and wasted £££
