I've always been keen on doing this to my car too. I like the smooth look.
You could fit a heat shield to direct the air away from the bumper?
I've never seen a diverted one like you want, but I would think it would cost much to get a custom job done. Would be interested to know if you solve this dilemma!

you could go custom. theres a place in Bradford that are REALLY good.
they're a metal fabricator turned exhaust manufactuers so the stuff is top notch and the prices are VERY competitive.
get in touch if you'd like some photos of there work.
like i said above a big mod in the states in making the back box from a golf TDi fit to other cars. not sure whats involved in this as you would have to find out the pipe diameters first.
hope that helps

right then....i did a google search for custom exhausts in bradford (thanks Karl) and got www.zorstec.com after a quick browse on his site i foned him. his prices are very competitive as u said. for a full s/s system it starts at £300, prices go up wen u start to add extra silencers, and a manifold would be £420 on its own ( shame!). he thinks it should free upto 10% of the engines power. all the prices include fitment. the best thing about it is it only takes a day to do which shocked me, i well thought it would be in for a couple of days at least. bradfords abit of a bugger for u southerners but there should be a similar place down ur end.
i also told him i was part of a polo club and asked if he'd do a group discount for us. he said if a couple of us get it sorted he'd do 10% off, if more than 10 of us do he'd do 15% off and if 20+ he'd knock off 20%! top bloke!
do i see a group buy coming on? im very interested, but unfortuently im in the isle of man till june. i think i will get this done as soon as im back
cheers for the info Karl im startin saving now!

OK, how about this for an idea:
Turn a twin DTM exhaust the wrong way round. NO I DO NOT MEAN stick the exit on the inlet, I mean twist it 180 degrees so the exit points downwards.
I had a peek under my motor this eve and I reckon it'd be mint? It'd need to be a short box but I reckon it'd be a cunning idea. You'd be able to glimpse the exit pipes butit would keep the smooth look and could always paint the tips black.
Opinions?
I think I might investigate the idea - although all my miles are on the motorway and I'm not sure I could tolerate a loud humming the whole way...
