Water engine issue

Post by polo-sib »

This polo is driving me up the wall. There are no water leaks in the car, as the antifreeze level stays the same. However when its raining or I am driving over puddles (thinking im a jeep), water manages to get into my engine somehow and my revs drastically fall to around 500rpm and sometimes they drop even more and cause a stall.

A few weeks back it was pissing it down and I was driving over puddles next thing I know I got my hazards on and running for starter for 10minutes straight before a successful start up.

Then I was by canary wharf in traffic for blackwall in the rain my cars idling fine at about 800 revs and kepts dropping as if its trying to stall.

Then I decided to take my car to a car wash last week, was amusing water got sumwhere and I completly stalled out for 5minute, had to drive out with the starter like a limping dog.

So obviously water is getting somewhere and somehow into the engine, but there are no obvious signs where it could be, but its causing issues as in the last 6 months I've had to clean my breather pipe out 4 times as it was filled with the yellow/white sludge from water and oil mixing.

Any ideas on where water could be getting in?

If i was you mate, I'd get a new dizzy cap and HG Leads as a starter, and check ur spark plugs aint covered in water.

These are cheap items so its a starting point it may sort ur problem out.

Let me know how your getting on

hum..it sounds like water is getting in ur engine from somewhere. I've heard of this issue from somewhere but I cant remember what the culprit was. I'll scoure around and let you know if i find anything out.

Although have you done anything to your battery? Maybe try a new one, perhaps the rain affects it. Just a thought

Battery has been replaced two months ago, I'm up to a point where I'm changing everything without solving the problem, if you find anything let me know.

Thanks for the help so far.
