Adjusting idle speed

How do you change the idleing speed? I have the MK4 polo with injection. I heard you have to do something to the throttle valve. Can anyone explain or tell me what I have to do to configure my idle speed as I need to increase it as it's at 600 revs at the moment.

does it stall at all when its idling? mine idles at about that, maybe a little higher hen its cold and i dont have any problems.....no idea how to adjust it though. try n find a haynes manual somewhere.

Haynes manual doesnt seem to cover it on the injection model, mine idle's at 800 normally and once warmed up it drops and is tempted on stalling whilst idling.

Something it never use to do till yesterday and its always on the verge of stalling as I leaked alot of oil last night due to a breather issue. I refilled the oil and now the cars not behaving.

first thing to try is reseting the ECU
very simple just disconect your battery for a while
give it one hour
then see what happens
there is no manual idle adjustment on the injection cars without an awfull lot of ball ache
it maybe your temp sender or air filter
but for the moment just reset and let us know what happens

usually it should idle at 850rpm but if it keeps dropping then you have a problem. This normally happens when pressing the clutch and coming to a stop. Adjusting the idle speed itself wouldn't solve the problem. Reset the ECU first and see what happens. If it continues try leads, distributor, cleaning throttle etc

You could also try cleaning the throttle body, with some carb cleaner. If that works you'll find that it will idle around 2000 rpm and you need to have the ECU reset!

What throttle cleaner do you reccomend? I'll try and reset the ECU tomo.

Just use a choke and carb aerosol cleaner. Ideally you should remove the throttle body, though you can get pretty good access with just the air filter removed.

I just sprayed the cleaner onto a clean rag and carefully held the butterfly open. I wouldn't spray loads of the cleaner directly into the tb unless you want a huge cloud of smoke when you try and start it!

What is the easiest way to remove the throttle body, I've starred at it plenty of time and have wondered?

Disconnect the plug on top, then it's for nuts around the base, disconnect the throttle cable and hey presto she's off.
