Go for the wheels mate, I think i'm going to go for a set of BBS RXii's when I can afford them but the solitudes look good.

Shocks are about £150 but it is seriously worth saving and going for coilovers, this way you can adjust how low you want the car to be.

hmm well persoanlly i wouldnt bother wtih coilovers because honestly how often are you gonna change the height? Like tim said a set of shocks and springs will cost u £120 but remeber youve then got fitting costs (cost me £100) and you gotta get your tracking and camebr done (about £50) I guess the cheapest option is just getting springs without shocks for about £60, but you don't wanna lower it more than 40mm on just springs, and even then its not great. But get the car first then worry about all that lol, youve got plenty of time to think it all through. As for the alloys, it all depends mine cost me £100 delivered in great nick, i'd say just keep your eye open for a bit.

Welcome to the site anyway, let us know when u get the motor

I went to view the car with my polo expert friend today.

This was the first time i have seen the car in the daylight.

The good news is that it is very original with the volkswagen original mudflaps and mats and vw stickers all round. It is also showing signs of regular maintanence and a recent service with new brake pads.

Unfortunatly the bad news is it needs a new front bumper because the corners are dented and scuffed quite badly but it is not what i would call an urgent job. There is a scratch on the bonet and both doors however these are only thin and small but are through to the white. There is rust on the arches, sills and above the windscreen.

Mechanically the car is mis firing however my polo friend said his was doing this and he says it just needs new HT leads and sparks which sorted his out. Also the timing belt needs done and tentioned as it has not been changed and squeeks a bit.

I have to give him credit where it is due he really knows what he is doing when i comes to cars and polos in particular.

However he did not get to drive the car as he is not insured to drive it to check the gear box and brakes. I was told to listen to for a whining noise from the gear box as these have been known to deteriorate prematurely.

I am paying £650 for the car, which is exactly what my uncle paid, do you reckon the car is worth this price considering it has done 59000 miles, is 1997 and has various faults.

How much should i expect to pay for the top half of the bumper.

Also how much should i pay to get the timing belt fitted and changed?

How else can i tell if the gear box is going to go apart from the whining?

Cheers for your help and advise so far by the way with regards to lowering the car and fitting alloys.

As always your replies are appreciated

How much are you looking for it and would you be able to post it to Northern Ireland??

Are the 8v bumpers any different than standard?

Also are the top halfs difficult to fit with primitive tools and knowledge?

Cheers mate.

BTW I need to tell my uncle tonight as if i dont buy it hes getting £950 for it tomorrow from a girl who he is learning to drive who i went to school with, is williing to give him the full money.(as he is a driving instructor as well - how multi talented lmao)

happy days.

i would love one of those bumpers but theyre like hens teeth.

have you done much to yours yet?

tbh i would always have prefered a corsa but my mate loves polo, has loads of parts and this one seems cheap and he got crashed into from behind at 60mph and was able to walk away from his old one lyk.
