car insurance 96 1.4cl

hey everyone, I have a 6n 1.4cl, and the dreaded insurance is due at the end of the month.

I'm currently a student, and i'm going away for my 3rd year for 6 months to Spain and France. As my mum doesn't drive at my home address in manchester, I want someone to look after it, but also drive it to a bit to tick it over.

Insurance prices at my home address are 1000+, but my aunty in lancaster has said she'll look after it, and for me and her at that address the premium drops to 550. I really would like to choose this option, as it means my insurance drops, and the cars being looked after!

My question is how would the insurers be with this? Should I change my license address over to my aunty's, as I'm worried a claim would be invalidated if they saw my car at one address, and my license at another.
Technically, the car is a damn sight safer at my aunty's, and I will still be driving it, overall, the most, so i personally don't feel like i'm trying to 'cheat' the insurers.

Any advice appreciated!!

Probably best phoning your insurers...... surely?

Let's say you DON'T change the adress the car is kept at and it's stolen. Will you still be covered? As far as your insurers know, it's meant to be living in Manchester!

as long as the car is insured at your aunties, i don't think they can do anything mate! just because your liscence says your home address, that doesn't mean a car will be there.
thats my opinion anyway, could be totally wrong

but that would be quite harsh!

^^ that would be too logical for insurers so they don't unfortunetly. What I know of is both your insurance and your license have to have your permanent residence address on them. You can't have two permanent addresses, you need to choose one or the other. So both documents have to match in that case.

A car can be stolen from anywhere other then the mentioned address but they still use our permanent address to calculate where your car is most and parked etc to figure out the risk.
