Hey guys- I've had my GTI for about 3 months now, and have started to get pretty bad lower back pain when I drive it. I've never had problems with my back before, and I'm convinced that it's something to do with the seats.
Wondered if anyone else has had any problems with this or any suggestions about how to remedy it. Lumbar adjustment would be awesome, but there is none on the seats. Would any other seats fit into a polo easily? Mk5 Golf GTI/Edition 30?
Cheers.
Lumbar support on Polo GTI
this is a funny one, i sold my 56 plate golf gti with full leather as it was giving me severe back pain for another polo gti with full leather, which i find the seats perfect in, with no problems at all,
strange how everyone differs i guess
as for the seats, the golf ones would almost gertainly need modifying to fit, subfranes etc and you may have width issues too, as for what seats slot in, i would imaging fabia or ibiza seats to fit straight in as the 3 cars share the same platform and are all VAG cars , but i obviously cant confirm this as iv never dont the change

Cheers Jeff. It is a strange one indeed. I suppose it's all down to individuals, but it doesn't seem to be doing my back any good at the moment.
I had a feeling that the fittings on a Golf seat would be different (that's if the seats would actually even fit in there)
Thought about the Fabia/Ibiza seats- I had an Ibiza FR before the GTI which I never had a problem with, but I would really want the fabrics to match so a re-trim would be on the cards. Eek!
I love the car though, and have some plans for it, so maybe I'll just have a bad back for a few years! Haha!

Yeah Kenny- lower back- sometimes just in the middle, but can be all the way across. I've tried adjusting the seat to every position I can, but I've not yet found one that helps.
It may just be coincidence, but it's the only thing I can put it down to really.
I just saw BeezerDiesel's post about why he sold his GTI too. Interesting. Mine is red too- maybe it's just the red ones!

I don't think it's actually just the seat but the height and position of the brake pedal too which twists your lower back with no lumbar support to cushion your back muscles.
I absolutely loved my little Polo but it was so painful to drive in traffic I only used it a few times a month when I did longer trips.
Unlike Jeff I find the seats in the Golf GTI a lot better (and the shoulder support is much better too) so maybe a set of Golf GTI seats would help you out if you can find some decent ones second hand. The trim matches and everything! But as Jeff says there is a fair bit of modification needed to fit mk5 Golf seats into a Polo. Recaro or Koenig do very high quality aftermarket seats but they have very high quality prices too. Maybe a cheap cusion might help, a tartan one!
BTW I used to have an Ibiza TDI 130 too, and have also had a Fabia vRS. The Fabia definately was more comfortable but the Polo is a better car IMO.
