Picked up my first ever car on Saturday, Silver MKIV Polo (W Reg). I have ordered a new gear gaiter, are they easy to fit? Also looking through service history, it doesn't appear to have had a new cambelt fitted, the car has done 57,000 so I would assume it will need one at next service, I know these are quite alot as my mum has a golf and had one fitted, but can anyone give me a rough idea for a Polo
Thank you
Fitting new gear gaiter MkIV Polo

Welcome Jack
Are you sure thats a MkIV polo - mine is a W reg and its MkV. Unless you were lucky enough to get a crossover model which does happen on rare occasions? If it looks like the one in my signature then its mkV
The gear gaitor just pulls off so its really easy to change, and the base just unclips. Youll need to use the plastic surround in the bottom of the base again in the new one
As for the cambelt, it definately needs to be done as thats 8 years since it had a new one which is kinda dangerous!! Recommend you get that done asap. From a dealer it costs £330, but an independant specialist shouldnt charge even close to that. All the parts cost just under £90 so you can see what i mean there!

Gear Gaiter
I will have to check through - but it is W reg and it is registered in March 2000. I haven't actually looked at all the papers, my mum said it was a MK IV but will have a look.
Mark IV or Mark V
Where do I find on my documentation if mine is a MkIV or V, but I must admit it looks the same as your polo?
