fitting 6x9's

Post by randomage »

inside the rear seats.....
could it work?
i cant cut holes in the parcel shelf n wire it all up cos sometimes i have to take the parcel shelf out to fit in a dog. i was thinking i might be able to fit a couple of stealth 6x9s in the back of the rear bench n keep the wiring cleaned out of the way. wacky idea i know, but it might work.....maybe?

plus any rear passengers would get a nice massage with vibrations... :D bonus!!!

im also thinking of anywhere i could fit a small sub without using up boot space. how clogged up is the top of the dash?

;)

full of wacky ideas me

by the way, use simple language, im a complete novice at this kinda stuff, first car n all.

How exactly du plan to put the 6X9s in the rear seats? Do you mean so they are facing out into the boot?

It MAY work but you'd need appropiate amount of space for them to move fully, and they may sound a little muffled, esp coming from the boot.

What car du own?

Personally I wouldn't get 6X9s at all, They have a poor freq range compared to other speakers sizes and combined with a sub can sound muddy and too low range.

Get some good 6.5" components and install them in the front of your car. Combined with a sub, and your looking at a lot better and more versatile setup.

In terms of sub positioning, you could enclose one corner of your boot for the sub and amp,

Or mount the amp on the back of a sub box so you can simply unplug it where required.

Or, I have heard of special subs designed to fit under front seats, but have never come across or seen any, may be worth investigating?

I cant see the top of the dash working out, its where airbags and air ducts are located, and even if isntalled would offer and very uneven rattly and in your face bass.

Hope this helps

i was planning on putting them facing into the boot, assuming they dont poke too far into the seat.

ive got a 99 6n 1.0, 3 doors, n no special fx at all! no airbags, u no the rest....

i might have a look at the underseat option for subs..

thanks for the info mate :)

they'll poke too far into the seat... not good.

as for the sub - you can fit one into the side of the boot if you're willing to do a fibreglass installation!

stick a pair of 6 x9s into the sie of the boot, you just gotta cut two sheets of mdf to fill the sides and the 6x9 goes in the little gap, fits perfect! thats what i have in mine. also if u do have 6x9s in a parcel shelf, theyre easy enough to whip out, just unconnect the wires and pull the shelf out.

6x9s are rubbish. Don't waste your money and save up a little more for a decent set of components and a sub if need be 8)

Yep!! Theres another thread elsewhere saying exactly the same thing.

IN short 6X9s are useless, components are more versitile, and have a better freq range, and fit in the front of the car!

then get a nice sub to handle the low frequencies

why do people like putting subbs under the seat lol :S i lyyk i t wen people can see the subb. if you have a good enough one it sends enough vibrations through and feels lyk someone is smacking you in the head lol.

6x9's . waste of time. although.. dunno. i own a pair so cant complain hahaha. but i would go with the decent front speakers. and a subb orr two in the boot. does sound better. iv herd both. depends though lol. 6x9's dont always sound that bad.

Mostly because they require boot space.

Well a sub will be really hard to actually fit under the seats, so if you can think about a space saving boot build.

Have a look at mine, its designed so you can just unplug the sub and take it out, you could also attach the amp to the back of the sub and remove the enitre thing if you wanted!

nice setup you got there :D

only issue ive got is the sub looks a bit messy. i want summat neat to go in mine. if i can ever afford it.

any others got unusual/original/plain mad ideas or setups? i want something a bit different for my car. i like originality.

Fair point, but thats because I don't have a false bottom, so the sub sits a little funny on the uneven floor.

You could put one in so it looks something like this
