Backbox for Mk3

Post by LogIK »

Hi everyone.
I would really like a nice, LOUD backbox for my Mk3. I don't want anything fancy like a complete custom exhaust system, I just want the backbox, but I need your advice.
Can anyone advise me of places where I can look for one, that is specific to the Mk3, so its simply a case of out with the old and in with the new, with no modifications. It would be handy if you could suggest something nearby. Also, I'm looking to keep below £100 :? can you help?
Thanks.

Theres not much you can get for under £100. I think the Ashley Mk 2 backbox might be around £90, but that the only one. The rest are over £100.
Have a look on ebay theres a Jetex going cheap.

Thanks Dan. I did have a go at looking on eBay, but I wouldn't really know wot I'm looking for, exept for typing "Polo Backbox" which returns hardly any results anyway. Maybe you could help me here, as I'm not well informed on exhaust systems at all :?

There is a Powerflow garage about 20mins away from me in Bolton. Worth getting a quote off them?

Powerflow will rape you on price! If you want a decent sound, well the nicest note ive heard is from Longlife exhausts. But once again they are custom stainless steel and mine cost £200. You could get a tailpipe trim from Halfords etc, weld it onto an original backbox, couple of coats of heat-proof paint, a polish to give it that pro-look and you have a ("custom"!) backbox!!! Then weld it back onto your orginal system. Not sure how that would sound though!!

Try your nearest scrappy if anything else. Demon Tweeks are worth a try, although they told me all I could get was a Jetex full system. But at £195 that wasn't bad.

If you just want loud.... get a claw hammer and use the sharp end to make some holes in the one you've got.

There's loud... and there's LOUD  Plus it'll sound more like a large V6 than a small straight 4.

(why waste money? its all the same effect)
