Replaceing top mounts etc whilst lowering

Post by Tim_GTi »

Getting some coilovers soon, and did a bit of research into what else to replace whilst I'm at it, and found this list (courtesy of Si)

2x 6N0 412 249C Strut Bearing
2x 6N0 412 331E Suspension Strut Storage
2x 191 512 333 Lower Rear Bearing
2x 191 512 335 Lower Upper Bearing

Is all this necessary and recommended to replace when changing over suspension?

Thinking about doing a DIY job here, so is there anything I need to know?

Cheers,

Definately replace the top mounts, as your new suspension will undoubtedly be less forgiving than OE, and the top mounts will endure more punishment than before. So it is best to fit new in my opinion.

You'll have to excuse me, I'm no nut on suspension, so you think I shouldn't bother with any of the above, and instead just replace the top mounts? For front AND rear?

I asked VAGparts for all the parts required to change my front and rear top mounts and the four parts you have listed above are what I got. My mechanic friend who fitted my coilovers confirmed that they were all the right bits when I delivered the car and the parts to him :)

i had all my top mounts replaced when i had my coilovers fitted, it is worth it as Bepe said, for piece of mind if nothing else. i susupect that my fronts may have failed after 2 years of use, its got rather crashy over bumps in the last month or so and quite noisy!

Cheers for the replies guys, would anyone know if replacing these things is something I can learn and do myself?

I'm planning on doing the drop myself,

I dont have spring compressors :?

The problem is I don't quite know how everything works (am going to need to be educated!), is the list above not a mount kit? So I wouldn't need the old ones?

Ok, something happened LOL i already replied to this but its not here.

So again, i wouldnt change the top bits. I never did - if they need replaced in 2 years then do it then ? They wont have that much wear (mine never at 50k when i fitted coilovers)

This guide is the exact same as the mk5.....

Spring compressors are about <20quid.
