Could I convert my heating in to auto if I got climatronic controller and just swaped it for my climamatic?? cheers

no, it's not that easy I'm afraid, requires a lot of parts IIRC. there's a recent post on here about it.

I've had full climate control before, and whilst it's good, I still rate the climatic (when it works).

I rarely have to adjust it from "22" in the polo.
