rolling road results

Well yesterday my local forum had a rolling road day at Rapid Chariots in Canterbury, we had around 20 cars plus a few others turned up, i think we had around 26 cars running in total!

my results:
Car: Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDi Sport 130bhp
Engine mods: PD160 intake and thats it!

Run 1
Max power - wheels:110.1bhp @ 3,043rpm
Max power - engine:148.5bhp @ 3,989rpm
Max torque :255.5 lbft @ 1,984rpm

Run 2
Max power - wheels :111.7bhp @ 3,579rpm
Max power - engine :145.4bhp @ 3,944rpm
Max torque :251.6bhp @ 2,559rpm

Temperaturer change between runs was +0.5 degrees c.

So bhp was up 18.5 on standard and torque was up 27 on standard. Not bad results and was preet pleased with the results!

My car came 4th in the torque levels, only being beaten by a 330bhp Sierra Saph Cossie, a 285bhp V6 bi-turbo S4, and a 260bhp Audi S2.

Some cars that i beat in the torque stakes included all 3 VR6s that attended which included a 301bhp supercharged corrado VR, a trio of 1.8Ts, a V6 4motion golf mk4 and a skyline r33 gts

overall it wasn't a bad day at all! its given me a bit of emphasis to get some engine mods done

That's really good Dan, I think most people with the PD 130 TDI engine seem to get more than the factory figures on the rolling road day!

It's a very good engine indeed

Nice results there. Been thinkin if to put mine on a rolling road to find out how much it is putting out

great results but what's the deal with the "power loss" calculations? are they scaling power loss or something rather than using a 15% constant engine to wheels loss?

edit: i only mention this because peak power @ wheels and peak poer @engine are at different rpm!

would be interested to see how they worked it out. either way those WHP figures are good

if you look at 18% loss then it works out to be 111.7->136.2

as a direct comparison the results are still impressive

i'm really not sure how they worked it out. they just stuck the car on the rollers, did their thing and then the results came up on the screen and we all got a printout.
all i know is that 98% of the first run figures were higher than the second run figures which most people were putting down to the increase in heat.
who knows really lol
i would be nice to go to another rolling road and see what i get for a comparison!

don't get me wrong - I'm not knocking the results but you've got to be careful with the flywheel calculations some rolling roads use.

best to stick with the WHP figures quoted.

what sort of cars had similar power to yours? that's the best way of using the results - as a difference between tweaks on the same rollers or to compare against other vehicles.

my 75bhp vento managed to get 104bhp at the flywheel with just a drilled airbox and k&n filter!
