6n speaker help needed

Post by booli »

i have a 98 6n but it only has speakers on the dash not in the doors
Image
these speakers are 4" can they be replaced by any other 4" speakers?
and due to lack of door speakers, is the only other way to put in new speakers, 6x9's in the parcel shelf?
and can anyone show me please how to wire up 6x9's in my situation.

many thanks guy

6X9s are not the only answer!!!!!!

I'd get 6.5" coxials or components. To connect simply purchase some speakers cable, and run them from the speakers to the back of the headunit, (preferably under the carpet and behind the dash), you then need to snip the wires which currently run to the OEM speakers and replace them with the new speaker cable.

Yeh you could put them in the shelf, you may want to look at door mounting them. Check out some scrappies see if you can find some doorcards with speaker holes, or just make some yourself?

Components and 6.5" coxials are alot better than 6X9s in my opinion. 6X9s are just gash!!

6.5" speakers are a lot better imo, they normally have a lot wider frequency response, where as 6X9s generally give out quite a 'muddy' tone.

For best results I'd go with 6.5" components in the front - The tweeters on these will handle the vocals and treble on tracks very nicely, with the mid-range 6.5 cone covering the mid/mid bass range. Then get a 12" sub for the rear, this will cover your bass frequencies and add a nice punch to your system.

For the money that sub deal is good, with £400 you want to set aside at least £200 for the speakers, are you planning on getting a seperate amp for the speakers also? Or just run them off the headunit?

probly run them off the headunit for now, i think im going to put some 6.5" speakers in the parcel shelf as it seems alot of work to custom door build. probly look out down the scrapy for some door cards with speaker holes in them already, what you think on,

4" on the dash
6.5" on the parcel shelf
amp n sub in the boot???

Yeh that sounds arite, although I'm not too sure about 4" speakers in the front.

You want your best speakers in the front, (and you want to spend a third to half your budget on them), for this is where you sit and you want music to come towards you, not from over your shoulder. When your at a concert you don't expect the music to be coming from behind you, you want it in front of you!
Ideally you'd want to put 6.5" components in the front (2 6.5" speakers, and 2 tweeters), for they offer 4 differently postioned speakers giving out different freq ranges, making them sound superb, the sound clarity you can get out of top range sets is amazing. But I understand your problem with mounting them.

I've never used 4" speakers so I can't comment on them too much, I can imagine they're freq range would not go as low as 6.5s however, and may suffer on lower midtones. Your 6.5"s and sub in the back may well compensate for this however. And for a low budget system, they will probably be fine.

Definitely better than most people's brainwashed "two subs and 4 6X9s, all mounted in the boot" approach
