Aerial amplifier

Is it true that 6n's come with/should have an aerial amplifier just before it goes into the head unit?
My mates got one on his, & after inspection I haven't. Whoever replaced my head unit must've taken it out.

My radio reception is really crap and I wasn't sure if it was just the head unit.

I don't have one. Don't think it was ever there, but I don't listen to radio - Ever. So I wouldn't know the difference anyway...

I guess you can pick one up for not too much though, right?

It's about Â£12, I listen to radio cos I have very few tapes, think I'd like an mp3 head unit soon.
Also if anybody does have one, which wire is the amp connected to. I've got a blue and gray one free

The blue wire is the one used for switching on an amplifier in a sound system, but as i've never had a standard head unit in my car i couldnt say which one it goes to.

try both

The blue & gray wire comes off the wiring loom, not the head unit

There wouldn't be a built in remote lead in the car! Unless they're totally stupid.
Anyone know how difficult it is to put wires for rear under the carpet?

running wires is easy, just run unclip the plastic at the bottom of the door sills and run it there

I've done this twice already but I was thinking of doing it more 'professionally' on my car.

I was thinking of running the wires out from under the centre console past the gear stick and handbrake, between the seats and straight through to the back. I'd like it under the carpet, so how do I get that up?
Looks like the seats might have to come out then lift the carpet from one side.

take the trim pieces off by the doors, and pull the carpet back off their 'clips'

all wires running down the car will be held down together behind several clip holders
run your new wires under these and they wont move ever!!!!!

but if u have to put them elsewhere you will have to remove the seats and lift the carpet

You can get a signal booster from Autoleads. Try your local car audio shop, should be about Â£10-Â£12.

I've spoken to my mate about his, he said that some head units boost the signal on there own, others don't. I've seen them priced at Â£10 by Autoleads. I'm gonna get one soon. (After cds tapes are just naff, just wish some thieving fcuker hadn't nicked my old head unit)

I think the older style Sony HU's that VW dealers fitted boosted the signal.

SteveB, just get a mp3 playing head unit

i just got one for my car and it totaly kicks ass, i got the alpine plays standered cd's, mp3 and wmp files ( took abit of bodging to wire up the 6by9 speakers i got in back but sounds f*****g A, i must try playing a mp3 disk sometime ( i just useing all my cd's that i have turned in to mp3 for my pc atm seeing as i not need them in the house, but i should try makeing a mp3 disk, would save changing disk every 12-15 tracks or so

I'm thinking of getting the Pioneer mp3 head unit @ Â£114.99.
I'm still gonna want to be able to listen to the radio anyway.

Ya but surely with a new head unit you will not need the booster thing unless you live in a realy crapy signal area ???

when i fitted mine i didan't see anything like what your going on about and my radio is fine ....
