wheel spacers?

Post by chubbster »

i went on cupra net and noticed that u can get H&R spacers for the mk2 ibiza +20mm each side. now this seems like a nice cheap way to improve handling and looks. really id just be after rear ones. i did a quick web search and didnt find much. id be only after a good company i could trust and have a proven record.
any ideas on them?

H&R should be quality, but isn't 20mm each side a bit much? What's the ET of your wheels?

I'd guess H&R does them - if they fit the old model 'Beeza' (did I get the UK slang right?) they will fit any 4-stud VW.

The stock 16v wheels differ from country to country, so I've no idea what your ET is. The GTI wheels are ET45 IIRC, so chopping off 20mm isn't too outragous. BUT! if they're 35, you'd end up with ET 15. Which is a one-way ticket to arch work.

Hey chubbster

I bought some eibach 5mm alloy spacers a while ago and they are top notch kit, expensive though.

You can get 5,8,15,20 & 25mm

The standard 16V wheels are ET43 it is not advisable to go less than ET35 on a VW if you are keen on good handling as this is the optimum offset.

If you are going to get spacers, then get them all round. I wouldn't suggest just putting 20mm spacers on the rear as this would increase understeer. Don't forget you will need longer bolts too.

The 8mm eibach IMHO would be best as you would end up with a ET35

Hey

I've not tried the spacers on the car yet. As I only bought one pair so I need another pair as well plus some longer bolts.
I got them from Demon Tweeks, not cheap though, about £30

I've since got hold of a set of 15x6 ET35 BBS RA's, so these will be going on eventually.

Exhaust rattling at 2000rpm   Mine does just that too !. It vibrates/rattles ? :? at 2000rpm.
It doesn't seem to blow at all, I think maybe the baffles in the rear box have broken up ?.

im going to take the car to the lads in ATS and see wot they say about the exhaust. in mine its very obvious. i think i did it doing wheel spins for a cheap dv camera i got for my birthday, shame on me im a bloody hooligan :P

went to ATS today and the blokes checked my car out. its as u said the bafflers broken up but in the mid box not the rear, possilbly could be the same in urs? it did sound to me as if it was coming from the rear. they just went along the system banging it and the only rattly bit was the mid bit. its goin to cost me £60 all in, its gettin done on tuesday.

another quick question....as he removed the rag from its tail pipe wen checkin for blowin, it exploded out with a bang and covering him in water. he was quite shocked by it and said i had a high amount of back pressure. is that good/bad/not important?

cheers

it will restrict power most of all.

cant comment on if its healthy or not but i would imagine that if the mechcanic wasnt expecting it then it may not be normal? :?

perfect excuse for a replacement back box :P

Not sure on the back pressure thing.

With regards to the exhaust, my middle section was replaced back in July so it can't be that surely ?.
My brother had the cat, middle and rear sections replaced under warranty over four years ago when he owned the car due to rattling.

So the rear must be on it's last legs now, I'll check it out over the weekend. Hope the cat's not gone again  . I think the sound comes from the rear.
