Speakers

Post by Smudjer »

Hello everyone, new owner of a second hand W reg polo.
Ive just bought this car and the speaker on the drivers side rattles and is annoying me to insane proportions. I'm guessing now and dont know much about speakers but i think its the bottom one rattling, am i correct in thinking the treble comes from the white bit near the mirrors ? Anyway is this easy to change and install new speakers to stop the rattling as im a bit dubious in taking it apart as it has the controls for the electric mirrors on the door card, any help really really appreciated, you will be saving my sanity
Regards

you will have to take the door card off to change the speakers, there is a good guide in the "DIY Guides" section.

And yes the treble comes from the mesh at the top of the door, they're called 'tweeters'.

Basically your speakers are split into two. The 6.5 mid speakers at the bottom (the ones that you say are rattling) which handle the low and mid frequenices. And the tweeters which are located up by the mirrors behind the mesh, these handle the high frequenies (or treble).

If you want to purchase upgraded speakers to fit, you want to be looking at 6.5" components (which is the size and type which you already have).

try caraudiodirect or caraudiocentre for these.

If you need any further help just shout

Thanks for the guide Neil, will take a look at it after i have posted this message, is it possible to just replace the bottom speaker rather then having to replace the whole component speaker ?

Yes, the bottom door speakers can be replaced on their own if you wish. The standard tweeters arent too bad at all so will tie you over, but if your gonna do it properly, do the lot as its a good sound all round then.
