Post by Dan 6N »

How easy would it be to install central locking to my 5door Mk4? Any suggestions on kits I could get? I don't want to buy anything really crap thats just gonna break on me..
Thanks,
Dan

Maplin sell a CL kit for £20 and it works perfectly :)

Its a biatch to install tho - requires all the door cards off, and a fair chunk of the dash to be removed.

Cheers for the reply mate, thats a lot cheaper than I expected! I'm very tempted, but if it means taking a lot of stuff apart (which I have no experience at) then I'm not sure if I'm capable...

when i had my 6n i installed remote central locking.

took me about 2 hours.

i didn't take dash off as i ran it under it but still out the way.

door cards will have to come off to fit solenoids onto the pin things.

i seen the kit said "remote control as an optional extra" but i asked the guy about it and he said, "hmm im not sure if we sell tht.." i was like wtf why sell something if u cant get the optional bits too  lol really annoyed me, anyone kno where the optional remote control can be found?

some alarm shops install central locking as an option to your alarm if you want. My mate got that done at my local, which only cost him £50 extra on top of the alarm inc parts and labour. So if you haven't got an alarm and think of purchasing one then add the central locking on top.

am not sure exact prices, just about to look into some today...
but im assuming for the one i want, ie starts the car and turning on headlights etc would come in around at least a few hundred pounds, but itll be top notch security ie clifford security or sumthing

will post back up once i find out some price, probs will look into cheaper options too, need to watch my money aswell :):P lol

I think I paid about 350 for mine, including fitting. My polo, being an L, has no optional extras so I had them fit CL with the alarm, cost me an additional 40 but was oooooooh so worth it. I then took mine a step further to increase security, de-locked the handles and shortened the door pins so when the doors are locked, the pins sink inside the door card.
