Remote Central Locking

Post by clarky_86 »

Ive always been aware of it but my gti is pretty basic, the only great feature it has is probably the electric tilt/slide sunroof :D

Ive always fancied a car with remote central locking, mine has central locking but lacks the remote part :(

Can i get some sort of kit, preferably vw genuine, to make it into remote? if so has anyone done this and how much roughly we looking at?

cheers

I can assure you it doesnt, it has central locking, but not remote. The keys i got with the car was a plastic spare and the main one i use which has one button which is a torch, haha not even that works.

Maybe it did have remote but that key was lost?!?!

If that is the case can i get new keys??

Yeh they're definitely different keys. My spare key is exactly the same as the main one, they both have remote central locking. It'll be quite a headache to get new ones, not sure exactly what it involves though.

Yeah my car came with two keys , both with remotes. Shouldn't be a big hassel to get one from any vw dealer expect to pay for it though because it will need to be coded to the immobiliser on the car then the remotes need adapting to your car, they will probably charge you half an hours labour to do it plus what ever you key and remote costs as they come in two pieces but the blade comes ready cut to fit your car. just remember to take proof that you own the car, proof of who you are and something with your name on that also has the same address on as the log book.

I dont know how long it takes for a key to come from VW but our Audi keys can usually be got inside a week? would be suprised if they come from somewhere different.
