electrical headaches for 2001 polo se

Post by marcusvz »

hi there folks,

i'm a newbie to this forum and I need help...

1. my electrical window is bugging me... the master control on the drivers door allows me only to roll down the passenger window... but not up again, and it does nothing for the drivers door window.

2. the sun-roof does open at all

3. the central locking only locks and unlocks from the passenger door, the master switch on the drivers door only locks all the doors, but doesn't unlock them

and now that summer is looming i need the windows and sunroof working...

hoping for any suggestions... apart from spending a small fortune at a VW dealer

thanks in advance

Electric windows

Post by Bridget »

The windows on our 2001 Polo have exactly the same problem, I removed the driver's side switch unit and swapped the switches around, hoping it was a duff switch; no such luck! Fault remained, so switches ok. I'm now at a loss!
Us newbies need some help! :?

My girlfriends Polo, 6N2, has the same faults. From drivers door, drivers window wont work, central locking button locks, but not unlocks, and passenger window falls, but not rises.....but passenger window works fine from its own switch! Sunroof works fine tho. Oh and central locking does not work from drivers door!

Okay, some info you may find useful...I had the door panel off today and there was no supply to the micro switch, and using a continuity meter I could not find the wire from the micro switch to the bayonet connector on at door pillar....however running a separate 12v feed from the battery had the Central Locking working perfectly....so I'd guess a broken wire or two, in the door loom. I'll price up a new loom (the existing one as had repairs to it already) failing that, I'll get the loom out and check it for breaks and get the solder iron out!
I'll keep you posted.

electrical headaches for 2001 polo se *FIXED*

I have sorted mine. There were two wires broken, a Black/White, which in turn becomes RED and supplies many components in the door, the other was, I think, Blue/Grey which connects to a window switch. The breaks were very close to the Multi plug end of the door loom and may be repairable in situ.....I had already got the loom out of the door at this point.....which is a pain!!
