That blows.

Can Tesco determine where it's being sorted? Odd. You'd think they'd take it to the right garage eh.

Wow, That's not cool...

Your insurers should really have given you the option to provide them with quotes etc, not just told you "YOUR CAR IS GOING TO XX"

I had this trouble with a previous car, I just wanted to get it fixed and they gave me the story "If you don't have it done at XX you won't have a courtesy car".

That's usually a crock, because if you get a few quotes (Porsche, Mercedese etc are usually good ones) then one from VW and provide those to the insurance, they will usually say, "VW it is then" and if you ask VW to factor in a courtesy car into the quote, you should still be ok.

This is what I'd do if this happened to me.

Good luck with the repair... Hope Ford don't give you the orange-peel effect that comes as standard on Focus's etc.

The ford garage said that they couldnt pick the polo up untill weds, which wasnt any good for me so rang tesco and they got a tow truck around within an hour y/day! So big up tesco for that + they have got a legal team involved already to fight for the little vw!

Phoned up vw to see if it would effect my warranty aswell, they said it would if ford didnt use vw parts so got to make sure they do!

now the wait, and the thought that it could be a right off!

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! Thats not right!

By law no insurance company can say where your car should be repaired. YOU pay the insurance, you have the law on your side to say where it goes! If that Ford garage even touches it then you can say goodbye to your rust and paint warranty on that area.

Phone Tesco insurance up and ask if they're running a restricted practice? Because if they are threaten to go to the board of fair trade, I guarantee you they will back down.

I've been with Tesco for almost a year now and they've been quite cool.
They wanted to take the car to a non VW garage and I said no, so they aggreed to take it to a VW approved garage.

They only allow you to have a courtesy car for two weeks, then you have to pay for your own, but when they said it was going to take longer, they let me keep the car for the length of time.

Also after having an accident it hasn't affected my insurance until next year. They've also let me lower the car and fit alloys at no extra cost.

I did have to complain quite a bit though.

insurers are allowed to have 'approved' garages, which you should be given a choice of. As Niel said telling you that you can only go to one garage is in violation of fair trading and monopisation laws

tesco didnt want to know when I complained about the extra 250 quid for alloys, How did you get around it? How much were you alloys worth, because I told them mine were 250 quid so they based it around that.

My insurance lists them as "non standard alloys fitted to a new car" I said they were an option on the car from the dealers and under £500. I'm 24 and the total insurance was around £400.

When I was 21, I was with Direct Line and added Alloys to my 6n2, they charged an extra £100 back then, so £250 sounds a bit harsh.
