The service light is just a reminder that you need a service. It can be reset easily, not sure what you have to do exacty on a 6N though,.

you just gotta get someone with a vagcom thing to plug in and reset. try http://www.247spares.co.uk/ for the glove box, youll find one for beer money from a breaker on there

Yep just a service reminder;

00= Oil (I think)
01= Minor service
02= Major service

Don't need vagcom to reset but I don't know myself. Some of the guys were talking about how to do it on CP few days ago.

Don't quote me as it's been a long time since I did mine, but if you hold the trip button thingy in, then turn on the ignition, wait a few seconds and turn the ignition off it should reset it. The airbag warning light is a VAG-COM jobby as I have still got mine to do and can't be arsed.

as above but shouldn't need to turn the ignition off, press the trip reset button and turn the ignition half on, hold for about 10 secs and the service light should go out!
