My girlfriends 1.4 16V has been a good little car until the other day when depressing the clutch and bang! The pedal went to the floor. Pedal didn't come back up.
Upon looking, the metal bracket that holds the clutch cable in place which should be an attached part of the pedal box has litteraly snapped off. Oh joy!
A friend said this actually happend to his 2001/Y Golf GTi (Ours is also 2001/Y) and a garage I spoke to reckons they have seen it before on Polo's. So has anyone else had this problem? If so I wonder if it's a known fault maybe I could approach VW with some strength in the case?
It'll probably cost us around £2-300 to fix by the sounds of it so any help/advise would be greatly appreciated.
And then we'll sell it! (it's flippin clean by the way!!!)
How common is this fault?
Re: How common is this fault?
Hi, same problem, am looking around, seems there may be a recall for the pedalbox, but as yet havent found which models it applies to. Either way it is common, and therefore I believe should be recalled, certainly this part is not sold as fit for purpose. I will post back what I find

Hi,
New poster here - sorry for raising a Zombie thread and if the answer is obv....
I love my Polo, for what it does its one of the best cars I've ever had.
I've got the dreaded Pedal Box failure (2000 6N2) and I've been learning about this.
Mileage is only 37k
The car is in the garage while I try and source a new one - will a 6N1 model fit the 6N2 (I know there is a high degree of commonality), there is one on ebay currently.
Much appreciated.
Thanks
D

Re: How common is this fault?
It is actually quite common on early-2000s Polos and Golfs. I’ve seen the same failure on a Golf and a Polo before, both with the clutch bracket snapping without warning.
VW never recalled it, so most owners repair or replace the pedal box and move on.
