mk3 and mk2f are the same thing dude.

the mk3 was technically a facelift of the mk2, thus mk2F(acelift)

mk3's had them, but i thought the mk2's just had a rubber bush?

When you say clunking, is it while turning, or once turned and rolling? if its the second option, it sounds to me like a CV joint.

it's both, sitting still and rolling, it's def the strut baering because i went to my mechanic who used to but and sell golfs and polos he simply jacked it up said to me " put your hand at the top of the trut" and moved the wheel and it was moving. he done the same at the other side and it didn't move.
