Aircon - What the...

Post by morris_GTI »

Sup guys,

As the weathers been getting rather tasty recently, i've been using my aircon.

But i have to say its crap, doesnt seem to be cold at all, whether i put it on ECON or AUTO or whatever it is :( !

does it need "re-gassing" as its about as cold as my old 6n polo standard heater system ?

You're advised to get your aircon regassed/checked on a 2 year basis. If it hasn't been carried out recently, it's very likely you have bacteria in the system too, so it would need purging.

Kwik-Fit do a basic recharge for 50 quid, if you include purging and cleaning the system expect to pay 100 quid.

check its connected!!
there is a plug the plugs into the compreser that sits directly infront of the oil filter ! it makes life easer 2 disconect this plug when changing the oil filter and the amount that i have seen that have been left off!

if this is ok then just get it regassed costs no more than 30-40 quid!

Do you have your windows open? That will defeat the whole point of air con and it will just feel like a normal fan blower than proper air con.

econ is actualy economy and is the basic heating with the air con off. the air con is only on when you put econ off! if you have been running like that for a while will probably need a re gas

Set the aircon on low.
Close the doors and windows and leave it running for half hour.
Get a thermoiter and put it near the vents, the air coming from the vents should be around +4 degrees.

I had the same symptoms as you. I turned on the aircon when the weather started to get warmer and didnt notice a thing. I wasnt sure where it needed a service or if the compressor was on its way out.

So,I had my aircon system serviced yesterday at my local stealer.Apparently when the gasses drop below a certain level (2/3 empty) the compressors shuts down to prevent any damage occuring!!

I had my system regassed, had an antibacterial flush through and some nice smelling stuff put through the vents to clean them out.....all in all £75 from a DEALER....I didnt think that was too bad to be honest!!

Part of that is right.
The compressor Clutch wont engage when its low on gas.

£75 is a complete rip off!

I would have told them to take it back out again.
They shouldnt do unauthorised work.
