amp or sub cutting out - help!

Post by poddington_pea »

i've got a 300watt (i think) jbl gt amp running a pair of 10" pioneer subs and when i've got it turned up loud (which is often) any decent ammount of bass or fast bass etc makes either the subs or amp cut out (pretty sure its the amp, i think) i know its not the battery cus it did it in my old car which had some all singin all dancing battery that my mate put on.

also is it possible to stop the bass goin to the front speakers cus there really small and sound like their tryin to jump out the dash

sounds like the amp is going into protection mode to stop it from becoming damaged!try turning the gain down on the amp a small bit! :) usualy a light will come on on the amp if this is your problem so check for that.

you should be able to lower the bass on the front speakers by adjusting the settings on your headunit!

Sounds like it could again be grounding problem. mine used to do this because my ground connections wasnt very tight.

It depends what headunit you have, whether your able to alter EQ settings between different speakers. And also how they are setup.

Is the amp 300w max or RMS?

its an alpine headunit i turned the bass down and it stopped the problem with the front speakers but it also turned my sub down aswell. it's got a sub level on the eq so i turned that up a bit but it didn't make much difference. time for a new headunit methinks!

no necessarily, you have to wire it up correctly to enable seperate sound settings. Your HU obviously supports it.

does you HU have a subb out? cus then you can turn the bass up just for that. and alter the other speakers accordingly. maybe youve pluged it into the head unit rong. cus then u turn the bass down and it wont alter the subbs. cus they have a seperate location and you can turn them up :O

if needs be you live in burton.. i live in derby. its lyk a 20 min drive if you want me to have a look at it. alternativly i cum to burton everyweekend just about cus i work in a bar. (dont wana say which one yet lool:)

in my car i have front and rear speckers from head unit with bass turned right down.6x9 speckers on shelf running off a small amp and a 12inch sub in boot running off a bigger amp and that sounds fine.check the earth cable and make sure its ground proper or that will cut it out but it does sound like the amp is not that big to run the both subs and it gets hot quick and cuts out.protection mode so bigger amp time for you sir
