Finally got a Polo!

Post by Torq-Al »

Just bought myself a Polo. :D
Its a '95 1.3CL, 50k, FSH (with every MOT!) from either VW or VW indy specialist, & 1 previous owner. Will put a few 'trinkets' on it, although no plans to radically mod it just yet!

looks like a very good purhcase with the service and 1 owner its had so must drive like its been cared for.

Anyway, a few free mods and minor DIY jobs would help you out. removing bumpstrips and rear badges, clear indicators and spraying the rear clusters red.

in the meantime, enjoy your ride mate

Cheers Noz,
Drives really well, even the brake fluids been change about 4 times!!!

Bodywork is good, just a couple of minor blemishes on the drivers door. Will attack the whole thing with the mop & polish next week & seal it with a couple of coats of carnuba wax!

Rear Badges will be off later in the week, beesting aerial, clear front & side indicators, plus black badges front & rear have been ordered (or in process of!).

Where can you get red spray for rear lights, hadn't realised it was around, was going to fork out for some new ones!!

You could get mk5 rear clusters and modify slightly to fit (Help can be found in DIY section) or you could just get red tint spray from the likes of Halfords etc. Couple coats of red then clear laquer will do the trick.

Nice purchase mate!!

I'd go with mark5 clusters. It's hard to get a good finish lights with a DIY spray job.

Yep, lexus lights look awful. Hence why i don't want them! I think my grammar may of let me down!

I was looking at 'old skool' style smoked lamps, or even clear. Or just get a set of the mk5's & modify them. Want something thats going to be subtle, without being gawdy or OTT.

No 'chavvy' lexus lights will grace my motor!!

Do Hella make replacement units for Polo's, similar to the magic colour versions on golfs? If so who sells them?

Here's what Hella offer

http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufact ... model=Polo

You can get them in smoked clear blue or green i think.

What do the magic colour versions look like?

^^ Personally I think they look gash. Thing is the clusters colours much lighter then the car they usually go on. Example: those blue clusters in the link are lighter then his dark blue car. Looks really silly in real life I think.

Yeh i disagree with them also, they remind me of old school lego :?

Best thing you can do with hellas is to get them sprayed red, or smoked on certain coloured cars.

Guess you can spray them black to match the cars colour. think what makes them worse for me is they're older then lexarse lights and REALLY outdated!

Possibly got a 16v set for a short term fix, then i'll get a set of mk5 lights & tackle the wiring & fitment later on!

Lexus lights have been done to death & are very chavvy & not individual anymore, not worth it at all! The Hella colour lights are ok, however as Noz said, they are a bit dated plus just don't look right in the flesh (the green ones are worse! ) Hella used to do a nice old school style smoke version in the magic colours which i was looking for.

Cheers for your input, Tim & Noz.

Was working today, however did a couple of bits yesterday. Debadged the back, put on the obligatory beesting, clear indicators on front, plus black front badge. Still to do this week are, clear side repeaters & black rear badge & might take off the rub strips too!
Plus got to give it a damn good machine polish & wax!
