Engine Bay Clean

Post by Mouse_GTI »

Last gave my engine bay a good clean in September, so it was looking a little dirty. Had a few hours yesterday before I went into town to watch the Football. I removed the BMC to make things a little easier. Noticed that the new location of my breather filter wasn't a good choice...

Ouch! Gonna figure out where to put an oil catch tank and replace it. Anyway, some pictures before the clean:

All wires and electrical connections were sprayed with WD40 before being wrapped in cling film:

Obviously the throttle body and alternator were also covered up. Gave the bay a rinse with the hose on a light spray setting. This was followed by spraying everything with Megs APC (mixed 4:1). Used a small bathroom sponge and a microfibre cloth to clean then also rinsed and dried:

Always the hardest bit to clean and still got it far from perfect:

This was only a quick clean so didn't treat the engine bay with anything. Always worth checking your BMC (if you have one) as I found out...

And I only cleaned that about 5 months ago! All better now though 8)

Nice work mate. I need to do this sometime soon. Am always scared I'll miss a wire or sensor or something and end up with water damage!

As long as all revealed wires and the alternator are covered up then you can spray water like mad
