1.6/1.4L 8 Valve engines...

Post by Rmachines »

Hi if i was to get hold of a 1.6L AEE lump i guess most of the parts would fit from the 1.4L its just the fueling side of it. Are parts like the intake manifold the same, and the throttle body/injectors/ECU etc.. Or is it all diffrent size parts for the 1.6L? All i know is it looks the same :D

Cheers!

It looks the same, onthe outside, internally it's all different. Bigger bore/diameter inletmanifold, higher capacity injectors, slightly differente throttle-body, the AEE has it all, just no difference in ECU though

Are you planning on doing an engine swap from a 1.4 to a 1.6??

yes my 1.4L engine is totaly knackerd, serious piston slap so soon to crack a piston.

I can get hold of a tall block 1.4 or 1.6 but would like to fit a 1.6 if it doesnt mean to much forking out on new parts. If i can find one with the mainfold and injectors that would be great!

Sorry to hijack the topic, but how does the bore differ and would the 1.4 pistons still fit into the 1.6 bores?

Does any one know if the engine out of the Golf would fit? Its the same engine but has diffrent engine mounts it doesnt have one by the cambelt cover. Would i be able to bolt it into place?

1.4 AEX & 1.6 AEE/AEA have same bore, only differ in stroke

Yes, will fit, you'll need to get the proper mounts onto it before fitting it of course

Ok thats great i will get hold of a 1.6L AEE/AEA engine then.

It will be a direct swap, all i need is the injection side of it? I plan to use my Megasquirt and fit TB's once its running :D
