starting problems. troubleshooting please.

Hi,
I have a '97 1.6 GL Polo. It starts most of the time but it does take a few seconds of turning from the starter motor to fire up. Is this likely to just be spark plugs or could it possible be a sticky starter motor?
This is my first car so I don't know much. Is there anything else it could be?
As much help as possible please.

try giving it some revs as you turn the key i find it helps loads on mine

My 1.6 turns over for a lil bit longer before starting when hot sometimes

giving it revs does stop the problem, think ill still replace the spark plugs.
