Weird smell and misting windscreen

Post by Dan 6N »

Hi all,
I was driving along the other day and it was late at night and dark and it started raining. My windscreen started misting up so I thought ok, I'll get the heat on the windscreen, so I turned on the heater and the fan thing to try and clear the screen but rather than clearing it, it just made it worse :? Also, the heater chucks out a musty sort of smell when you turn it on,
Any ideas whats up?

Thanks guys, I think its more of a problem with water being in the heater matrix rather than inside the actual car, I changed the pollen filter a while back and there is no water inside the actual car now...

And indeed, your car looks mint Darren!

Sounds like it, check the header tank to see if you lost any coolent, also check the carpets for dampness. also behind the dash for any signs of staining or water.

Defo sounds like your heater matrix. I had this prob last summer. I went to my local go to guy. he confirmed it. there was also a little water leakage. So he said just get some Radweld and put it straight in the water tank. I did that and it totall fixed the problem and its been about a year now with no probs at all.

Hope it helps you. Cos if it is that you need a new matrix, I pretty much requires the dash out, altho i hear you can just take the front area of your dash off and get to it as well :P
