Hello Everybody!
Have problem with my REAR Shockers......They are quite squeaky specially on big bumps.....no matter how many times I take to VW's they never seem to find the problem and send me away saying that applied some Service Lube and to try it out for a week and report back if the squeaks come back, which i may say has come back on all the occations.......
So all the experts here please help....i am attaching some pics.....have a look and let me know if my shocks need replaced......

The driver's side one looks quite rusty - but that does not necessarily mean that its faulty. Really if these dampers are damping okay then why change them - although it could be that some of the rubber mounting parts are to blame - and maybe they are not available to buy seperately - but I would not think that that is the case. Sometimes the bushes/bearings on dampers start to suffer wear - but eventually that will lead to the seals leaking then you should see traces of oil running down the housings. Have you tried to check the operation of these dampers - ie press down each rear side and check that it kills the bounce on the recoil?
you can't really say if they need replacing just by looking at them. it's what's happening internally that matters - there aren't any leaks so as mentioned, if they work fine then don't replace them.
Thanks "david burton" and "RUM4MO".....I'll check for leakage....but also I have appointment booked on sat with my VW dealer since I have extented dealership warrenty......by the way wot else sud i tell them to check.???
I just wondered about the mileage as your shocks looked in much worse condition than mine (that had done 50k when I took them off and replaced them for coilovers).
I cant really help though mate sorry! Be interested to see what vw say again though?
Just got the whole suspension on the car checked with my local dealer.....
and they say the wishbones have worn out and need replaced.....also said this was a common problem in polo's.....
Now my car is on dealership warrenty and the service desk fella said he is not sure if the warrenty will cover it......but question is will warrenty cover the expenses????
