8v to 16v conversion HELP!! NOW WITH PICS
Hey All, Some grewst looking cars out there- Keep up the good work!
I was wonering if anyone could help- i own a 1.4 8v but have luckily been offered a crash damaged 1.4 16v complete for very cheap! I want to swap the 16v engine into mine- would the standard 8v brakes be sufficent or would it be b4est to change all the parts. Im not very mechanically experianced and was wondering if anyone would know someone who would be willing to assst in the works- course they wuill be many hands around to strip fornt end and dash etc- from the midlands area- eve/weekend project- price can be arranged- i just need someone who has the space to do the work- the donor car is practically stripped of the interior already
sorry about the spelling got 1 of them dodgy wireless keyboards!

You will end up strippling loads, from loom, to speedo/odometer to brakes, you'll be practically left with a chassis & interior bits mainly if that helps.
You will be able to switch the engine pretty simply its just wiring etc that will take its toll.
Like Josh suggested maybe its better to use your current 8v as a donor car and fix the valver? Let use know what actually wrong with th valver maybe someone could give you a quote on repairs?

Post pics of both motors up, gives everyone an idea of what you're looking at!
IMHO you already said you are mechanically inexperienced, so this would be one MAJOR first project!!
All would hinge on how bad the valver is. If its unsalvageable then you got many a late evening!! Cos the 8v will need to be near enough gutted to accept the valvers 'heart & brains'. Plus transfer all the brakes, interior etc.
Would mean you knew your car once you've finished tho'!!!

for a start the 16v is pretty bad but its red and ive got a thing with red cars they are just cursed!and i just dont fancy a dmage repaired car.. the interior has gone to a friend of mine who has a 1.4cl as ive got ibiza 16v seats in mine- I really want the engines in my own car- Ive got a guy whos willing to do a deal where he does the engine and box wiring brakes etc but myself and a few hands will be dealing with the dash and interior and clocks and the front end to make the removal of the engine easier. i will try and post pics up of both cars- ive never managed to do it as i dont know who will host my photos and how to link them to here- I can probably put them on flicker and put a url though.
theres probably gonna be about 5 guys working on the car of which 3 are my mates including me. ones a mechanic and ones a vw nut whos had 15 mk 1 golfs! who happen to live next door to each other- the jobs gonna get done onm the street!

Posting pics is easy, looks like you've got the basic idea. Have a read of this guide: http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/poloforum/v ... php?t=3388
Will be interesting to see what you're attempting! Especially if you're doing it all out in the street too!

Lol- Someone spotted it! I removed one bump strip but didnt get round to removing the other side yet!
Ive had her for about 2 years now- The Ibiza 16v Seats are in but aint got no pics yet. As far as the suspension goes they are just lowering springs ( strangely enough from a 16v already) people told me they wouldnt fit- in fact they do but the front ride height is a little higher as the engine is lighter ive been told!
Pics of the damaged car to follow- This project aint gonna be done with the speed that ive seen others on here- This car has been done on a budget! and bargain hunting!

Ive decided to swap the complete subframe from the front including front legs anti roll bars hubs brakes etc- the damaged polo has got AC but the rad and ac looks wrecked- I dont know if i can get away with usingh my rad from the 8v???
The rear drums look the same on both 8v and 16v just the front is bigger so im not touching the rear of mine- ive been quoted around 5-600 pound for the conversion and im guessing thats mates rates as that is strictly for the removal of one engine/gbox/loom and swap- Me and the less experiance mechs are gonna remove the front end of the car and strip the interior - which i think is a fair deal!
Also ive got this splitter- What do people think of it on the car- I just want to make sure it fits nice a\nd flush around the headlight and indicator. opinions would be great

Just had some Bad news! THey guy who was selling me the car has told me he needs the Gearbox as his is knackered on his new Valver- Looks like the project will have to be cancelled as im not gonna bother if i aint got the complete car!
What a downer-
Looks like ill have to just save for possibly a bigger conversion!
What a downer-
