clutch rattling !!!

Post by colour_concept »

about a week ago i had my clutch replaced as it was causing problems getting into gear, especially reverse (would crucnh everytime i try to get into reverse gear)

anyway, i had the clutch changed, and now a week later i have noticed a rattling noise coming from the car (under the hood) when im stationary with the car turned on. If i press down on the clutch pedal the noise goes away, but as soon as i release the pedal, noise comes back. Its intermittant and i dont have any problem geting into gears and driving is fine.

But the fact theres a rattling noise when im not pressing the clutch down means somethings not right. Obviously im gonna take it back to the garage ASAP but i just wanted an idea of exactly what could be wrong. I dont want the garage to fob me off with some fairytale story about its non-clutch related etc.

any help much appreciated 8)

at a long shot it could be the box, my old mk3 GT did this and eventually it lost 5th gear

does the noise increase when revs do? it could be the release bearing, but that would also make a noise when the clutch is depressed

noise stays the same. Some of the time the noise isnt there, and seems to go away, however when stationary with the car on + in neutral it can be heard.

ive also noticed when it does this rattling noise, if i try put it in reverse i get a some crunching. However when the noise isnt there, no crunching at all.
