Just a ikel touch!

Post by NOZ »

i've had these rear LED clusters since they came out and cost me a bomb at the time. However, over time just like Lexarse lights they've started to look quite tacky and chavy. Even though the backings black the chrome surroundings on each bulb makes it looks crap.

However, instead of going for mk5 red rears I thought i'd tint these to see how it looks and hopefully hide the chromeness! As tinted the reflectors means an MOT failure I thought i'd do something different and unique. I know the finish wasn't great cos I didn't wet sand the lights down first. gave it 7 coats of red, 3 coats of black and 8 coats of laquer (plenty of time on my hands!) so here it is......

From directly behind it, you get a VW sign reflecting. A nice lil touch even if I must say myself. Also whilst I was taking the pic thought I might as well take another of the clean body. As you can see, my car has the orange peel effect from a previous body spray :x before I bought it.

the red L.E.D lights are not CHAVY!!!!

However i think they only look good on red cards.

I think the red leds look awful on black cars, and think its stupid when there is the grey/ transparent version available that look just as good and suit other color cars better!

Tinted LED lexarse lights look a hell of a lot better and the VW logo adds that uniqueness to it which I like.

I got the black set as soon as they came out so i've had these for aaaaaaages and got bored. The problem is the backs black but you can see all the chrome surroundings.

Your right about the red ones, the actual glass is red so you can't see all that.

Hopefully if I ever get around to smoothing off the back :? then all i'll have are 2 small VW logo's which should look quite cool. Wondering if I should bother though, already bored with the car and want a mk5 GTi although i've got no £££ for one with leathers!

Well if its hard to spot then it won't bug you as much. Mines had a full respray before purchase and it seems like it was never colour-sanded afterwards

They saved on costs by giving it such a thin coat that the paints peeling off at the edges. My sprayers scared to put masking tape on it incase it comes off!!!

Really hate the car with all its problems and what its all cost me but it bugs me when I happen to stare at it and think, "thats a bloody sweet ride"! Happened last night too

The whole cars got a peel effect. The paints thin around the edges so its peeling off in places like the edge of the rear quarter where it meets the boot lid etc.

Only the celulites noticeable but the whole cars got a wierd pearl effect having a blue tint to it!
