Thread Spec Required

Post by willwoll100 »

Hi everyone first time here,

I've got a MKIV Polo and I've been doing some pre-MOT work on it, I need a new nyloc nut (lock nut) to fit on the end of the steering control arm which fastens through the upright, I thought it was an M12 x 1.75 nut but it doesn't seem to want to go on. Has anyone got any ideas what thread it is maybe an M12 x 1.5?

I did try and search but to no evail

Cheers

I think that you will find that nearly all the thread sizes used are "fine" or finer than "normal" - I made that guestimate before like you and was wrong. Best to buy from dealer or get a copy of a parts list like ETOS on ebay - the thread sizes are quoted in the VAG lists. As a little aside, just in case its of interest to you, Screwfix do a large and quite cheap tap and die set that has most of these fine sizes - maybe not strong enough to actually tap threads a lot - more for cleaning up threads.
