Austalian in desperate need of HELP!!

Post by megasalexandros1974 »

Hi folks, Im hoping someone here can help me, I've searched high and low at home but no luck

Ive just purchased a 2008 Polo GTI and I can get my hands on a set of current model Golf 17 inch GTI wheels however I want to know if they will fit. I know the stud pattern is the same but Im concerned about the offset.

If they do fit, is there a restriction on rubber size? Whats the recommended size to avoid throwing out the speedometer too much .
I would like the overall diameter to be slightly larger than standard to fill out the guards without making it look like 4X4.

I hope Im not asking for too much, sorry but here downunder they have no idea about these cars.

Thanks in advance,

George

Stud pattern is different,

Polo is 5x100, Golf is 5x112 I believe.

As above the 17'' Golf wheels won't fit BUT can be made to fit.
I've got a set of GTI 17s sat in my garage and they are 51mm offset so with a set of 5x100-5x112mm adaptor spacers which would bring the offset to around 36mm (assuming a 15mm spacer used) they would fit under the Polo's arches perfectly. You would of course need different tyres though too. 205/40/17s or something giving similar gearing instead of the balloon 225/45/17s off the Golf.

Thanks for all the advice and support guys.

I eneded up buying a set online, they are on the way and Ive been told they will fit for sure but im not convinced.

They are 17 inch, 5X100 and 45 offset, I know the pattern is spot on but Im concerned about the offset. Can anyone confirm if this offset will be fine?? Also the tyes are 205/40/17 which should be OK for all the research Ive done.

^^^^ That style is from a Golf R32 in Europe.

ET45 will probably fit if the wheels aren't too wide, at worst you may need 5mm spacers which are pretty cheap.
It's unusual for the 5x100mm replicas to have such a high offset, they're normally around 35 or 38mm. The 5x112mm ones usually have much higher offset 44 to 54mm.
