GTs had an anti-roll bar built in to the rear axle, and a steering damper too I think - but not essential for the conversion. Neither is the gearbox, but you're crippling the engine really without the close ratio 'box - though I'm not sure what the 1.0 litre ratios are like.

The inline fuel pump will probably need swapping, though there are conversions out there that are fine with the original non-GT/G40 pumps - including Paul B's 170bhp G40. I found out on my G40 conversion that I needed the inline pump though.

Basically everything on your list is needed! HTH.

would u need the gear linkage as well? the bit that means u can put it into the 5th gear, does that make sense? :?

If you only have a 4 speed gearbox, then you might need to change the gear linkage.

so overall, roughly, how much would u say this type of conversion would cost. Including buying egine, other bits and bobs, fitting etc

All the engine stuff you could probably get for around £300 I'd have thought, maybe a little more depending on your luck! Then budget about £100 or so for service stuff (oil, oil filter, plugs, cambelt, air filter...) depending on how much you want to replace.

As for fitting I'm not entirely sure. I guess a garage would charge a fair bit for an engine swap, but I reckon there'd be people on here willing to do it for around £150ish.

Amstrange - the 1.0 ratios are wide as heck as it's got a wide torque and power spread despite not having much of it at peak (also it has to give some suggestion of hill start ability mixed with motorway cruising). You'll be dropping down to 4250 from 6000 going 3rd to 4th - not dire, but the lower gears are worse, and 4th to 5th not much better. It'd kill a car with a high-rev power band...
(2nd to 3rd is about 6000 down to 3900 i think - 1st to 2nd, you can ping it right off the limiter and say hello to the mid 3000s all the same. not as bad given the lower speeds at the top of 1st, and you'll still be in the torque if not the power band so it'll pull "ok", but still a bit of cold water in the face).

Still. At least it would give you a great top speed and a sheer excess of hill climbing grunt. Could be worse. Could be formel E box, or from a diesel.

edit - on recent further information thats blown my previous facts out of the water........ it may depend *which* 1-litre 5 speed box you get  so the above is possibly a load of hokey if you dont get the one i have ... there were at least 2 close gear variants which were only as wide overall as the 4 speed (difference being in the final drive fitted - about 5% in it.. handy if your tyres havent got stock rolling diameter), in addition to the 'wide' 5 speed - being essentially the standard 4 speed with a +20% overdrive 5th bolted on.
