Brakes

Post by KennyPOLO_Gti »

Lookin into upgrading my front brakes with after market ones. Like the look of the brembo drilled and grooved ones and i like the dark grey colour!

Was looking at them on the europepreformance website and the only 288mm brakes it has are for the Golf Mk4 Gti and they have about 4 listed???? Does anyone have any other websites i could look at and will the Golf brakes fit the polo ok??

LOOK ON THE GOLF 4 SECTION ON AWESOME GTI'S WEBSITE, THERES A PORSCHE CALIPER UPGRADE, 6 POT TARROX CONVERSION AND ALL THE USUAL 312 MM CONVERSIONS MATE

oops, caps

i have 312 mm tarox sport japan disks with tarox predetor pads, with the golf 4 anniversary calipers and carriers with goodridge s/s hoses and the stopping power is more than good enough for my car as it is now

the benifit with312mm conversions are its a size thats been available for years on the golf, so cheap for parts too when they need replacing, disks and pads etc

they are 288 mm but unsure of the thickness to be honest,

however talking from a been there done that point of view, its really not worth it, the weakness is in the calipers, not the disks and pads, i had 288mm tarox disks and predetor pads and the setup was still rubbish

your best to either save your money, or save up longer for the full conversion, however the setup i have now is fantastic, really a million times better, more feel, better braking power etc

Jeff is 100% right.. forget the 288 stuff.. (its w**k)

Find 312mm stuff secondhand or refurb... (TT180, TT225, Octavia VRS, Golf 1.8T 180, etc)

The stopping power is completely different... superb..I still cannot believe the difference.

I got refurb TT225 carriers & calipers, new Mintex pads and second hand TT discs..... shop wisely £150-200 max and its well worth spending...

Do not bother with cheap performance discs and pads... they will be worse than standard parts..

Then you look out for 256 vented rears.. ;-)
