sub problems

Post by haz_pro »

Had a go at fitting my sub today in my polo, done all the wireing and everything, how ever there is no power getting to the amp. To check it wasnt the amp i tried another amp and it still didnt work.

Now that leaves either a earthing problem or the live wire problem, right?

I have earther it near the light, maybe this isnt a very good place, where have you all earthed yours?

Or it could be in the live, i am using 4 gauge wireing, and there is a fuse half way how ever i checked and it is fine.

Any ideas?

thanks harry.

Hi Harry
Are you using a multi meter? Use it in the continuity setting to check that you have got a good ground for earth and also to check the cable has no breaks and the inline fuse is not blown, switch to DC setting to make sure you have the right amount of voltage on your feed cable.

My earth point is under the rear bench.

A good contact point for the earth, and a good colid connection for the live is essential.

Have you got a picture of both?

it doesn't necessarily have to be the earth or live. It could be the remote lead running from the back of the head unit. if you can't find any probems with the live or earth. take the head unit out and check the remote lead is connected correctly! :D

Sounds stupid but check the fuse on the amp wiring lead, also check the fuse on the amp (if it has one!)

i have had them go for no apparent reason when changing from car to car.

Also did you clean the paint off the body at the earthing point to ensure you have a good earth?

Is the amp any good? You could also put a link form the positive terminal to the remote to rule out the possibility that the head unit is not sending the 12volt to the amp to switch it on!

if you have checked the fuses just tell me to shut up!!! Lol!
