Car won't start

Post by Tim_GTi »

My car won't start, it' doesn't turn over, the gauges flash then the needles all flicker!

I'm pretty sure I know what it is. I gave my Throttle Body a good clean out yesterday and should have taken it out for a drive afterwards to burn off the carb cleaner, but I didn't

I tried jump starting it with no luck.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Maybe you flooded it? I remember putting in too much carb cleaner and it took half a minute to start. Sounds more serious though if jump starting doesn't make a difference?

Mine had something similar, Turned the key to ignition on and all the normal lights came on then turned the key again to start the engine and not a single thing happened... turned out to be the ignition switch?

Did you disturb any of the wires when you cleaned the TB or push the butterfly hard?

It may be that the TB has been damaged or become unplugged...if the ECU cant communicate with the TB it wont let you crank the engine..

Or the engine is flooded...whip the plugs out and see if it will spin over...

Thanks for the replys guys, but it turned out to be my knackered battery playing up! Gave it another jump with my brothers car and got it going, also lost a sidelight in the process!!

Replaced the battery with a nice Calcium based one now so it's all sorted.

Although since my engine check light has come on, so I'll have to burn off any excess Carb Cleaner by the looks of it!!
