Stretched Tyres

i have just purchased some RH turbos and i will be getting some tyres soon from them but i want them to be stretched but none of my VW m8s in sunny doncaster know of anyway that does them any tips on finding a place that does?[/b]

What is the size width etc then we can help you out with stretch.

erm how can stretch be dangerous??? that sentence scared me slightly

i got 165/50 stretched onto my 7" wide rh cups

it is quite alot of stretch as well

Running stretch means theres less rubber on the tarmac, when cornering hard you risk the chance of pulling the tyre bead of the rim and the car doesn't feel as stable. Some how its good in racing though, in most forms they use stretch.

Put it this way, the Japanese difters use "sretch" as its easier to break the traction, thus making it easier to drift.

All im saying is it can be slightly dangerous if you plan on going round corners at speed.

When you go round corners the tyre "sretches" slightly depending on what speed obviously. When you run stupid stretch on tyre that doesnt happen therefore it can be a bit unstable.


I have no stretch whatsoever and i can throw my car at some speed in roundabouts and it sticks like glue.

they are 17" and 8" wide i was thinking a 195/40/17 tyre size

What tyres do you have on your standard wheels?

You need to be careful not to make the speedo out.

^ yeah if you have a mk5 with 14" 17's will put the speedo out no?

Adam you'll be fine with that stretch mate, just don't do anything ridiculous (I can't imagine you do with a low and wide?)

17 is extremely large for a 6N2 IMO, they just look silly.

I suppose if you were to look at them though that would be an appropiate tyre. Check out some Golf forums, they deal with large rims all the time so there will probably be quite alot of info there on them.

I agree regarding the 17s.

I'm yet to really be convinced by a 6N2 running them as they do, as Tim says, just look too big.

Pft 17's sorry it's such a small car that they look Rid! 16 is the max that should go on, even then i'm not convinced, i'm running my 15's and still think there too big! But this Strech is the Dangerous Kind

ah right i understand, i was a bit scared when i heard that becuase i thought someone might have meant the tyre coming off when cornering hard or something.

i havent found much noticeable difference in grip to be honest.

one of my mates stretched rubber came off the other day!





we managed to get it back onto the rim and pumped up! quite an amusing way of how we got it back on!

i know this is the MkV forum but i do own a 9n but looking through the pics there are lots more of you that have stretched tyres or it might just be me.

looking at them wheels tho i feel i would cry if it happened to mine when they are finally on my girlfriend is deff not getting behind the wheel
