lack of central locking, doing me head in...opinions??

hi all.
recently picked up a wee bargain polo, one problem...its an E, so no extras :(

really missing central locking, so thinking of retro fitting a central locking kit. i have seen a few threads with the kits on ebay with OEM looking flip key fobs.

only thing is that i only got 1 key with the car, so i will need to get another key cut and coded. is that a VW job or a lock smith that can code??

i also read that i can hack the immobiliser? does that mean i could get away with just having a key cut and not needed the wee microchip in the fob??

iv spoke to a guy who can get it fitted for 70 quid with him supplying it and doing it at your house

If you get an alarm they can add central locking into it. Try Audio Advice in Portadown or SIM in Londonderry

i hear ya mate, was tring ot get ideas before i bother with that route. im handy enough and my mates a wizz with electrics.

I also have an 'E' and I have fitted CL. I picked up the kit from maplin's for £20. Mines a 3-door and took me a good 4-6 hours to fit.

Then with the help of alexperkins I got an alarm off ebay for £32 and got help fitting that. As for the immobilizer, the way mine has been done has basically overridden the cars standard immobilizer. This was achieved by taping the chip from the original key to the immobilizer ring and then putting the ring behind the steering column out of the way. All I then had to do was get key's cut for the flip up alarm fobs :D

It's all perfect now, just need to find a spare immobilizer ring at the scrappy as a blank for my ignition as there is a gap round it now... :roll:

Sure :P

There is a small chip inside your standard key which communicates with the immobilizer ring and allows your engine to start. So if you were to use non-standard keys like I did which don't have these chips coded by VW then you need to find someway of getting around it.

There are two options really; The first, like I have done is to remove the chip from the standard key and tape it to the immobilizer ring which is a small black ring surrounding the ignition coil. Todo this though, you must remove this ring and place it somewhere else and also by doing this you are overriding the cars default security, which was fine for me as my alarm I fitted has an Immobilizer relay intersecting the ignition coil.

The second option is to take the chip out of the original key and place it into the new key as close to the front of the key as possible and hope that it is still recognized by the immobilizer ring. The only problem with this method is that you will need one of these chips for every key you want to use with the car, Thus being the reason I opted for the first option.

Hopefully thats a little clearer, sorry if not, I'm still pretty tired haha.

I don't have any pics unfortunately and tbh I really can't be bothered to go ripping my dash apart to take any at the moment. Maybe someone else on here has some or you can find some on google?

Its basically just a black plastic ring the size of the ignition cylinder which has a wire coming out of it which goes I presume to the ECU.
