Problems with HID's, coming on with full beam!

Post by lolhoward »

I have just noticed that when my lights are off or I just have sidelights on, when I flash my lights (full beam) my main beam HID's come on aswell. I didn't notice this with my normal lights. If they used to I just will stop flashing! as I heard turning HID's on and off can shorten there life span.

Please could somebody confirm or help me out, cheers.

Also one looks slightly brighter, is that just the bulb being slightly different or just the way its reflecting as I haven't got projectors.

Your dipped beams should not be flashing with your full beams no, do they come on when you turn your full beams fully on also?

Sorry i've confused the matter.

When I flash my headlights, with the stalk my main lights come on also. Sidelights stay off.

So when I flash my H3 (full) my HID's H7 (dipped) come on. Sidelights 501 only on when selected.

Does that clear it up?

Double check your wiring for the HIDs, something's definitely up.

Your full beam bulbs are H1 not H3 by the way.

If I put sidelights on, 501, full beams using the stalk can only be used flashing on/off doesnt stay in the fully on pos. When I turn on dipped and I use the stalk it can stay in the fully on pos. Not sur if thats ok or not?

This is normal tim - its something to do with the low current start on the dipped when you put HIDS in. Mine did this from day one...even with HID mains!

Basically ye - it depends which position your high beams are in. This only occurs on retrofit ones tho - HID Mains on the GTI have no effect.

Yeah, put back my H7 Philips and there the same. Pull stalk half way and just full beams, but all the way until it clicks is both.

Swapped my HID's over, and now both seem to be as bright? Must have been how they were reflecting or something. Where way to high though 8) . Lowered them down to the right height, i think :?
