Certainly, just dont know much about the POLO. I am interested to know what the FSI actually is, I beleive its a smaller motor. I looked in the general FAQ, it looks like a 1.0 is the smallest 8v released, is that true? Ultimately I would like to exchange a 2.0 ABA motor for the smallest motor I can! Is there a place to buy a used motor in addition to the wiring?

What mk polo are you asking about? The FSI never came in the mk3.

The crossflow block wont fit in a mk3 polo as it sits at the wrong angle and is too tall (or something like that)

not many g40's were made in the mk2, n most of those went to workers of vw! don't no if n e were imported into the uk! mk3 came into the uk but again, less than 1000 came in! its a 1.3 multi point injection with a small bore supercharger!

mk2 G40s 115bhp & only 500-ish made - all left hand drive
mk3 G40s 113bhp (cos its got a cat), only 600-ish right hand drive, lots made in left hand drive.

FSI engine only comes in mk6 (2002 onwards) polos as far as I know.

1.0 8v is the smallest I know of.

Is the car like mine and hayseys or is it a newer one? What year was it manufactured? FSI might mean two different things. On the car haysey was talkin about it means something like Fuel Stratified Injection, something like that, The smallest version being the 1.4

Smallest engine

Post by AtLastImports »

So the smallest engine would be a 1.4L? Is that from a polo then, or an actual Golf?

When you say 1.0.... are you talking about the 899cc, 999, 1043 or 1093? :) (40, 50, 45 and again 50hp respectively)

There's some dinky 8v sizes for you to chew on..

And other questions? Ask away, but 10 at a time might be sensible :)

Just out of intrest, why are you after the smallest engine possible (sorry, motor)? Are you trying to build a weight saving car or something? :?:

Certainly, great question. I am hoping to see something that we dont see here, that will be a little different. Many cars have enoumous motors, I did myself just last year. But to be more "european" and with the US begining to see the pain of high gas prices, I am thinking to want a small, efficient motor this year.
This is my car from last year ! :D

In that case you'll probably be wanting a G40 :D Not the smallest, but isnt really so much of a weight or displacement increase. 1274cc's instead of 1043, in the case of a mk3. Plus if you buy the whole car rather than engine, its got some performance mods ready fitted, like an improved and lowered suspension setup.

Especially if you're any good at removing and refitting chargers (for when you want to exchange the 50% full-range power gain over a plain GT for the 10% or so fuel saving...)
(thats 110-ish vs 75hp, and maybe 27 vs 30mpg (british) round town. if you want the true specs i can scan or type up the polo manual thats sitting on the floor not too far away from me.. im lazy right now)

The 1-litre/s is/are really more of an insurance and tax dodge for europeans, especially brits and italians :D Anything under 1100cc (especially carb/SPi and unblown) tends to get cheap rates as it's fit for hardly anything except high-effeciency city work. 1300, especially multipoint and possibly charged, is much more bang for your kilo (or pound (or dollar)) all told and doesnt hurt the fuel milage *that* much. Especially if you put it next to a 2 litre or V6!
