Gearbox Trouble

Hello guys! I stumbled across your forum while searching for advice on my gearbox problem. I have a 2001 Polo Match 1.4 but the gearbox is whining and popping out of first and third. I've been told that I need a new gearbox but I'm struggling to find one. The gearbox code is ETD but I was wondering whether or not it's possible to use any other gearbox codes in this car? Failing that, can anyone point me in the direction of a good used or reconditioned box? Thanks!!

I'd have a word with your mechanic and get your gearbox reconditioned with METAL BEARINGS (had to emphasise that).

The long you leave it the worse it will get!

I left mine and after an accident i had, 4 days later the gearbox blew up on the A1.

So get it sorted ASAP if you can mate.

It's not advisable to put gearboxes from other engine'd Polos as the ratios will be different.

You ahve two options, brand new box from VW, or recondition your current one.

Recondition is alot cheaper, but find a garage that has a good rep to do the job.

don't buy a ready reconditioned box, you don't know who used it how previously.
