APR remap

Post by Bradders »

My GTI is 2 years old next month and im fancying APR stage 1 from awsome.

I`ve got a couple of questions if anyone can answer them please?

Can it be traced on VW diagnostics? for example if i were to get a fault on the engine, will they plug their laptop in and notice a remap and therefore claim void warranty?

If VW cant trace it can my insurance firm?

And lastly: Im having trouble getting insurance quotes with the mod. My renewal is £592 with 5 years ncb (i cant beat this with other firms) however with the remap declared its £1552, i dont mind paying a few hundred more but nearly a grand is stupid!
Can anyone recommend some decent insurance firms who might insure me with the map?

Cheers. Brad.

Hi Brad,

No matter what anyone says all remaps are detectable at a certain level.

It might not show on VW diagnostics whilst the car is parked in the Workshop but it takes just a few seconds on the road with their VAS diagnostic laptop, because you can easily see that more than standard boost is being called for.

An Insurance assessor wont have the tools to check for a remap but if they are suspicous then they just remove and send the ecu away for examination.

And lastly.... I am in the Sheffield area on Saturday morning tuning a Fiat Ducato 2.8JTD Motorhome...

....You want to try your Polo remapped ????????

i think ill give adrian flux a ring but in past experience they have been expensive. if not a may be an insurance rebel, lol!

thanks for the offer more bhp, sat is no good due to work commitments. but i havent ruled out 1 of your maps as i read nowt but good things about em.

do any firms do switchable maps for the polo? a bloke i used to work with had one for his his TT. it was a box you plugged in and turned a nob and it was mapped and then do the opposite for taking it off. I think it was from AMD or REVO?

Cheers again.

Yes switchable is available but it still has modified data in the ecu.... so you are still modified.. ie.. not running standard software..

I can do you switchable but you need VAG-COM cable to tell the ecu which code to look at...

Never sell switchable stuff because no real benefit.... switch back and you get less MPG, less power, less fun, worse driveability, and you still have modified software in the ecu...

Never mind about Saturday it was just an idea... I can get back earlier now to sort a Leon 2.0tdi 170 ;-)
