POLO MK7 question (not gti)

hi im new here and im looking at getting a mk7 polo, ive been looking at just getting a 1.2. As far as i know there is the polo E and the polo S, now i know that there are a few differences in these such as body coloured bumpstrips on the S and electric mirrors etc.
i have two questions:

1. does the polo E come with remote centrol locking where i get a fob which i press to unlock the car, or do you need to use the key?
2. would you say its worth paying around and extra £500-£1000 for the S model over the E? as i can find decent E's for around £5000-£5500 and the S seems to be £6000 (but normally has slightly less milage). bearing in mind i plan on modifying it subtly.

1. E is the lowest base spec model where you get central locking but its not a Keyless entry i.e. you will need to lock/unlock through the driver side door using your key.
2. Basically if you go for an S-Model you get a bigger engine i.e. 65bhp whereas in a E-Model its 55bhp, as far as i know colour coded wing mirror and door handle and finally a set of 14inch or 15inch VW alloy. Also in the E-Models you dont get ABS...I might be wrong.

thanks for the reply, i thought the s was a bigger engine, because after looking at the vw site it says, but alot of their info doesnt seem right
when i looked on the autotrader the S models seem to be 55 too? and only 1.2's, they also come in other colours that the official site says they do not.

if i was to buy the E model, would i be able to get a remote central locking kit fitted and what sort of price would i be looking at?

If the E-Model that you buy has central locking then only thing you will need to buy is a transponder key something like this

Do a search on transponder as there are couple of threads on this type of conversion.

You definitely need to test drive both - I had a 1.2 as a courtesy car and it was disappointing compared to my 1.4

Don't forget to consider the "SE".
If you can afford to go for more, then the extras you get on top of the "E" or the "S" are worth it IMO
My SE has 80bhp and I much preferred the interior.

1.4 SE all the way..

Much nicer car inside and out. I've had the 1.2 E for a combined total of 3 weeks when both my Polos (my old one and this one) went in for servicing in the past, and I can safely say it feels cheaper and more 'plasticy' with the interior, and the sound system is not the same (you get more speakers in the SE). The floor mats, 40-60 split rear seats and the keyless entry is so handy.

Also the power in the 1.4 is much better. The 1.2 feels sluggish pulling away from lights and really struggles on the motorway.

Oh yeh and don't forget the new 'Match' version. Seems like a good deal; about the same price as an S, but you get some SE spec and some leather on the inside and foglights included (as I had to add mine myself as you don't get them with the SE).

Basically what I'm getting at is the 1.4 SE will last you longer and you'll feel more like you're driving an expensive German car!

im not really after a fast car to be honest, i had a 1.8 SRI corsa as my last car and thats why im looking at a 1.2 because the petrol prices and MPG i got from it was disgusting.
What sort of MPG would i get in the 1.4? as opposed to the 1.2? and what exactly has the SE got different then?

1.4 has better mpg on the motorway due to the bigger engine, but as a city-run around, it does on average 330 miles to a tank. I can sometimes squeeze more, but I have a heavy foot so I don't bother.

I found the 1.2 to drink less, but not substantially (i.e. not enough to justify getting a 1.2 only for fuel consumption..)

The SE has a trim upgrade (nice soft cloth), colour coding all round, 15' wheels, keyfob, heated mirrors, semi-auto A/C, sliding front seats with 3-doors, 40-60 splitting rear seats, car mats (usually), front side airbags, and some other stuff I've forgotten (I spent a good month debating which model I should get before I got my one as you can probably tell!) Oh and the SE only comes with the 1.4.

thanks again for the reply, seems like it may be worth getting that they, id be happy with that mpg for a 1.4.
its just very hard to find a decent polo for sale never mind looking for the 1.4 SE model lol. if there are any people or garages selling the SE model local to you for £6000 topps then give me a shout lol
the nearest half decent ones i can find are 100 and odd miles away from me so its a bit of a journey if its gonna be a s**t

i live in newcastle mate, but if a good one comes up im willing to travel to get it.
ive just been out for a test drive of a 1.4 SE 5 door, really like how they drive and the build quality etc. i just need to find a 3 door one now lol

Ah the 5 door is very handy though. It's great not having to get out when your mates are getting in! Plus carrying stuff is easier. 3 door might be cheaper though.

You may struggle to get the MK7 SE for £6k. There are a few more about for around £7k, which could give you room for bargaining/extras chucking in.
This is the cheapest i've found: 3dr SE

Apparently an SE tank can see 400miles....although, like daa I get around 300-340 for my shorter city runs!
