Electrical gremlins like that can throw you off what is at fault, so are difficult too trace until you change the right component or, like you, it fails.
However have a look at the links I posted above & price them at your local motor factors too.

That's exactly my point, you're confidence to tackle these simple jobs will increase. Servicing a car of this genre is simple, so long as you treat the car with respect & be safe when you work under it.
I learnt by being thrown in at the deep end by a mechanic friend who refused to work on my motor & said I had to learn to do it myself, learnt loads from it. Tho' have got a bit rusty, getting back into it at the mo!
