Cut-down door pins

Post by DanOliver »

Hey guys,

I would really like to cut the door pins down as I think it looks a lot nicer when they are flush with the door cards.

I have seen the how-to's and I'm tempted to do it. Only thing thats stopping me is that because my Polo has an after market CL kit and alarm fitted, when I drive my doors autolock, and the only way to unlock the doors without turning off the engine is to either pull the door pin's up or to press the unlock key on the keyfob.

Now, if I were to have an accident on the road and I was incapacitated.. and I had cut my doorpins down, I would worry about how the passenger/s could get out.

Any ideas? I was thinking of getting hold of a SE model CL button switch from a driver door card and having a go at fitting it into my door card. I think this might be possible as to unlock my CL you just have to ground one of the wires going to the drivers CL motor. I just need to figure out if I can ground the other cable to lock it or whether I would need to find a way of running a 12v supply to the switch.

Thanks guys :D

Can't you just turn the auto lock off?

Personally though if your looking into it that much, i'd just leave the mod out.

Well one of the reasons I'm tempted to do it is security.. so by disabling the auto-lock (assuming I can) then I'm defeating the purpose..

I think you might be right, just leave it..

Be nice if it was reversible too.. but its not as far as I'm aware..

If you got some spare rods from a breaker or something then it would be. It's alot of effort for such a small mod though.

Yea, well I'm going to a scrappie next weekend.. but I think I'm probably going to give it a miss for now.. I just wouldn't feel too safe in the car..

Plus, I plan to eventually take it on a track day with a mate next time we go.. so the last thing I want is flush door pins if I flipped or something...

Exactly, if your putting that much thought into mate, just leave it out.
